Senior Controls Engineer
For controls engineers who want to build real things that matter.
At Ikonika, we restore controls – turning aging control systems into the robust, connected infrastructure that is necessary for the evolution of a manufacturing plant.
In our WA headquarters in Fife, we have a team that does everything in-house: from design to panel fabrication, programming, commissioning, and support. Our sweet spot is process manufacturing, on land or at sea, where unplanned downtime isn’t an option and where systems must work under pressure.
About the Role
This role is for controls engineers who thrive on variety and learning by doing. You might be deep in design work one day, and troubleshooting an undocumented, complicated old production line the next. You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with sharp, resourceful teammates who take ownership and pride in every wire, rung, and graphic.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Actively contribute to the technical leadership of projects, collaborating with other senior engineers.
Design and modify control systems, including system architecture, networks, PLCs, HMIs, electrical schematics, and panel layouts.
Develop PLC and HMI programs.
Lead on-site implementation of control system migrations using Ikonika’s UPDATE™ migration process.
Provide hands-on customer support onsite and remote: diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve control system issues.
Guide the panel design, drafting, and build process.
Travel to customer sites approximately one week per month.
You Bring:
Proven, hands-on experience as a Controls Engineer in real-world environments
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across electrical and software systems
Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming—both modern platforms and legacy systems
Experience designing industrial control networks, including OT (Operational Technology) infrastructure
Collaborative and curious mindset, with a desire to learn and improve
Willingness to travel and adapt to on-site requirements
Alignment with Ikonika’s values and cultural traits
Bonus Points:
Degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
Professional certifications (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, or networking/security)
Experience working in process manufacturing environments
Hands-on experience migrating obsolete networks, processors, and related hardware
Comfortable in customer-facing technical roles, including field work and troubleshooting
Valid driver’s license
Your schedule
We’re flexible with your schedule because our work happens when our customers’ systems aren’t running. That doesn’t always mean standard hours. Projects may occasionally require overtime/weekend work. Since we adapt to meet their needs, we make sure to offer that same flexibility to you.
